LIFT - George Orwell House

Exploring LIFT - George Orwell House left me utterly unimpressed. This presentation felt like a flashy waste of time: all clicking and spinning, with none of the straightforward clarity I wanted. Zero stars for this browsing experience.

The virtual preview of LIFT - George Orwell House was maddening. I wanted a simple overview for my Kecamatan Ubud plans, but the whole experience felt overcomplicated and exhausting. I would rather close the tab than wrestle with another scene.

I found the tour for LIFT - George Orwell House painfully tedious. The presentation tries far too hard to impress, and for me it falls completely flat. More spectacle than useful browsing; absolutely not my idea of a helpful preview.

Was okay, not like what we expecting. The place have potential but need better construction support. The location far away if you bring a car u must park like 4-5 km away from the property, suggest use motorbike!!! The place we stayed wasn’t functional at all first floor was bathroom saparate from the bedroom which is second floor and everytime u need to go to the bathroom u must go out n follow the stairs imagine u are sleepy middle of the night with narrow staircase. Eachtime my hubby went down the room shaking like earthquake... its scares me the building might be fall down or something as the structure beam are really small . Its matter of time n luck i guess ... The bathroom there is some kind see through under the sink definitely people from pool can see us shower and sitting on the toilet. The landlord chopping the tree in the morning and woke us up .. definitely not pleasant. Even the staff wont bother to ask how our stay was . Not sure if i would recommend this place .

Staying at the Lift is an unique experience in the mids of nature. But we didn’t like it as much as a lot of other reviews. The concept is great but we think that a lot of details need some extra attention, improvements and better maintenance. It feels like they where in a hurry when finishing the room. Examples would be: the finishing of the ceiling off the bedroom, the mat on the upperdeck, the rust on some places, the not painted board behind the airco, the sharp edges and not fitting of the door mounting, etc. When you want to take a shower at night it’s better to leave the light off because otherwise you’ll be giving a show for people standing outside :) Besides the finishing touch we do think it was an unique experience at a place which is completely different than any other place in Ubud.

The treehouse was beautiful and clean.

A unique and great experience to stay at a boutique style tree house! The staff is very helpful & friendly. They have a pickup service by motorbike since the way to Lift could only be passed by motorbike, and it took approx 15mins by walking. So I suggest if you go there not by bike, don’t hesitate to contact tHe staff.

Great experience in the treetops.

I loved this place, particularly the triplex I stayed in with both a balcony and rooftop terrace. I didn’t mind that I had to go down a floor to use the toilet, but consider one of the other rooms if it’s raining. The host was great. When google maps sent me in circles staff came to meet me and lead the way. Best to have a scooter because it’s down some twisting bumpy paths. I was happy to be wearing a good bra. Most def worth checking out. Checking in.

Nice place, quite far from the main street and in the night, the street was very dark and if u dont have motorbike u have to walk quite far to get dinner or to get in to ur car in the main street. But overall it was nice place to stay

Stilfulde hytter i tropiske omgivelser. Vi synes at det lå perfekt afstand fra byen, uden at være for tæt på. Man skal dog kunne køre scooter hvis man bor her, da det ellers er lidt af en gåtur før man kan komme ud til vejen. Der er ikke noget mad på stedet, så det er godt at have en scooter man kan komme ind til byen på og spise. Det føles meget privat, da der lige nu kun er 3 hytter (en fjerde er igang med at blive bygget). Søde og hjælpsomme værter. Rigtig meget værdi for pengene.

Nice and unique place for 1 night. Beautiful nature.

The location is beautiful and it is really a unique place. Love waking up amongst the trees. and sitting on the roof tarace in the afternoon with a light breeze was so peaceful. The room is small, not much space to put your cloths or bags somewhere, but I like the modern design and the surrounding. For me it was a perfect getaway, and the feeling of being in my own little cocoon high up a tree was absolutely perfect.

Geweldig en prachtig verblijf! Wel wat afgelegen van de hoofdweg en (nog) geen mogelijkheid om wat te eten/drinken bij het verblijf. Dit was wel in aanbouw, dus wanneer dat af is, zou het perfect zijn.

Good experience!

Location is absolutely bad. It is very far from nearby eateries and you can only either scoot or walk out to the main road. However, the kind staffs were willing to scoot both me and my partner out for a small fee so that sort of made everything slightly better. Room is extremely tiny and be careful of their Low lamps. My partner accidentally broke it with his head while standing up from the ground. Nevertheless rooms are all very clean, response rate was very fast and staffs were all very willing to help. It’s great for a one time experience of living in a treehouse.

Amazing location but a bit hard to get to by car. They need to have a restaurant on site.

Very pretty and unique place to stay. Brilliant design Our room was quite small though, no place to keep our luggage. It's also a bit away from the market if you do not have a bike. The main road is also a bit away if you do not have a bike

Something unique in the midst of secluded place in Ubud, inaccessible by car and bike trail is challenging. Worth a try at least once.

Really fun and unique place to stay. It’s kind of a crazy m, narrow road to get down, so NO car access. If you have luggage or don’t know how to drive a motorbike well, it would be very difficult. But for light packets who know how to drive a motorbike it was fun. Super quiet and relaxing:) We stayed in George Orwell with the patio on top which was really cool.

Unique experience

Great place to recharge your energy. So chill & serene. The team are so well organized, easy to communicate and the place is pretty clean knowing that we're staying in the middle of nowhere. The only downside is the access to get in the LIFT stay is hard and accessible by bike only OR walk for a good 15 minutes. Overall, we'd come back to stay again thanks LIFT!

Absolutely amazing! I had a feeling I was living on top of a tree in the middle of the jungle, yet in a very civilized way — with a spacious bathroom, AC, nice balcony. Totally recommended.

I’m in love with this amazing place!!! Pure magic!!!

It is a great experience to fall asleep between the treetops and to be kissed awake by the rays of the sun directly into your face (yes, there are curtains as well if you are not an early bird ;-) If google maps says you reached, just follow the gang a bit more, you can not miss it. We felt safe and secure and had an awesome & very quiet sleep. The Pool is refreshing and so nice in the morning with the sun rays. Breakfast was perfect too at TYGR. It's so worth staying here, we surely come back!

I stayed one night and will be back for more! The treehouse was clean, quiet and magical all at the same time. It was just what I needed and then some. Highly recommend if you want a getaway.

Excellent place to stay. Please keep in mind that the place doesn't have carpark. Might want to check with surrounding neighbours to find parking spot.

LIFT Bali offers a truly unique experience from all the stays I've been in. With a treehouse concept that's tucked inside Ubud, away from the busy roads and surrounded by a natural forest setting, you will definitely feel in a space of your own. There are only three rooms you can stay in, which makes it nice, quiet, and private. The bed and bathroom were clean, however, if you have a thing against bugs then maybe this place isn't for you as there are many even inside the room. I loved the top "living room" where you can just relax and do your relaxing routine, feeling like you are secluded up in the air. The downside of this place is that it is really far to get in and the road leading there is very narrow; if you're not experienced in using the scooter then it'll be quite a walk in and out of the hotel. But overall I had a wonderful time during my stay at LIFT. Will be sure to recommend this place to others.

This is a very cool concept. We just spent the weekend here and had a great time. We stayed in the George Orwell which was kind of funky with a top floor balcony bedroom next floor down then the bathroom. The balcony on top is great with nice views we had cheese and biscuits and vino every afternoon up there. To me the pick of the tree houses although smaller. The pool was great as well. Will be back

LIFT is amazing. I love that it gives us all that Ubud's lush nature got. The soft sound of the river, various animals, winds, and morning rain (it's drizzling when I stayed there) creates a serene feel yet adventurous. It's my first time staying in a tree house and it's really exciting. We stayed in a three storeys tree house. We can hang out at the top level for more private ambience. Common space has relaxing area too at its own tree house and a bar. Surrounding view is simoly as good as nature. So, it was great to stay at LIFT.

Just one night stay and wishing I stay there more nights. It was great experience and lovely place! Recommended

Fantastic little space. This one has a smaller bedroom as the bathroom Is on a separate floor. The upside is a lovely balcony and a roof top lounge. If you have back packs or small bags then this is perfect otherwise you might want to look at one of the other two options. The staff are super helpful and helped pick me up as well as arrange a motorbike. All in all a great little stay.

Spent the weekend at Lift with some friends and was not disappointed. I loved the stylish and comfortable tree houses - each with a different design and layout. It can be tricky to find the first time you go there but it does have a nice wow factor, and the feeling of being secluded from the outside world. Would definitely revisit.

A beautifully thought out concept and space, an experience far from your standard hotel getaway. I'd say it was "unforgettable". Despite the difficulty on scooter to reach the destination, there are staff on-site to pick you up if need be; you're led to a uniqe, quaint, and forresty space; with all the amenities to have a minimal yet boutique getaway all in one. Staff were lovely, helpful while you felt very secure and safe in the middle of the Ubud tropics. For a romantic escape, look no further.

One the most enchanting experiences you will have in Bali. From the spiral staircase to the cool panoramic tree-line view this is an experience you will never forget. If you ever want to feel how it is to be Tarzan for a night give this place a whirl. I ll be back.

When I woke up yesterday it was better than in a dream. In this beautiful treehouse amongst the birds and meditating by the pool was ace. This is truly amazing and we’re hanging out here, had my lunchbox with baby potatoes and curry on the rooftop, followed by a nice chill and sleep. Glad I found this stunning and unique Boutique Hotel during the COVID-19 downtime, as I'm sure usually it must be fully booked and it could be hard to get a reservation without a long waiting period. Ubud was so beautiful and showed it's charm with no traffic at all and pure beauty everywhere I looked. I wish to anyone to have such a same wonderful experience as we had.

Very beautiful place in the middle of palms and Ubud Jungle. Some stains on the bedsheet (because of a lot of use) even if it was clean. The bed was very soft and the place is amazing!

Nice and picturesque place, close to the center and at the same time in the middle of the jungle! Very cozy and stylish design. We loved staying at lift! But please be aware that there is no much space to keep bags.

Staying in such unusual house is an amazing experience, we really enjoyed it very much. The view from all windows is terrific, the house inside is very comfortable considering that it’s a tree house. The bedroom and bathroom were super comfy. The terrace on the third level is great to chill. The staff was very friendly and helpful, we’ve been provided with fresh young coconut as a greeting compliment. Highly recommended staying there at least for 2 nights if you want to have a memorable experience :)

Exactly the same as the pictures. Wonderful experience to stay in a treehouse in the middle of jungle. Perfect for the young and fit hipsters who would enjoy the vegan food places around the area. Not my first choice but an easy scooter ride to Ubud shops and coffee places.

A special place, quiet area, the host is very communicative and if you need transport you can just call him. The experience of staying in a tree house is something different, we had the one with the balcony and the extra space on the top, which I think is a bonus. However going down the spiral stairs at night when you need to go to the bathroom, you have to make sure you are awake!

A quiet, unique experience close to all the amenities of Ubud. Beautiful landscape and genuine staff.

This is definitely a must experience spot. It is so unique and relaxing. Even when it was raining, I was able to sit outside on the top floor and enjoy the rainstorm. It is so peaceful and the staff is so kind and quick to respond. You won’t find anything like this anywhere else in Bali! Some traveler suggestions: 1. Bring lots of bug spray - remember you are in a forest so there are going to be a lot of bugs. 2. Bring some snacks to your room as there are none on property and it’s a bit of a trek (about 13 minute walk) back to the main road. 3. You can rent a scooter but it is extremely difficult if you’ve never done it before as the path is very narrow. 4. Be prepared to go down the stairs to the bathroom. We didn’t mind this but could see it being tough for people to navigate in the middle of the night. 5. If you want to use Grab to get to the airport, don’t. We were unaware that the locals don’t like Grab (even though it is completely allowed to book on the app) and ended up getting harassed and stalked by locals after trying to get into our Grab car. It was very scary so make sure you find a taxi driver that won’t rip you off or harass you. We suggest walking to the more popular street in Ubud about 25 minutes from the location to find a nice taxi driver. Overall the host and location was wonderful and this is a very unique experience!

LIFT is a special and unique place! It has all the charm and personality someone wants when they want to get away from the crowds and stay in somewhere different! George Orwell is possibly the most different unit of LIFT’s options as you have three levels of rooms. The first is an open air (but private due to cladding) bathroom, second is the bedroom with a small balcony and the top is a lounge area with seating. Absolutely unique but a little weird moving up and down. The shared amenities are a beautiful pool overlooking the river jungle and soon to be open bar and sauna. Koming the host is amazing and caring for you.

This place is just amazing! All the three rooms are nicely built. The open bathroom provides natural soap, towels for pool and shower and a bathrobe for the Sauna (!). One level above is the bedroom with stylish and cosy furniture (and ac!!!), the minibar (beer & wine) such as the bluetooth speaker guarantees chilled hours in your current home. Coffee and tea you can prepare yourself in the morning with a boiler. The balcony next to the bedroom and the upper roof top terrace offer an amazing view in the middle of the green jungle with all the animal voices you can ever imagine....just listen and look and do...nothing. Just in case that you forgot your yogamat, you can find one upstairs;-) My recommendation is to practice yoga on the platform next to the pool. So enjoy your welcome coconut and order your food via gojek/grab if you are too lazy to ride your bike 5 min to the center of ubud with all its amazing cafes and restaurants. But the bar should open soonish as I was told. Not to forget the staff: they are helpful and also the owner was amazingly kind...thanks again 🙏🏼✨ Sampai jumpa & Makasih banjak, Anita

Очень необычное и уютное жильё. Останавливались в Убуде на три дня, как раз было в самый раз. Домик очень Фотогеничный, красивая ухоженная территория в близком контакте с природой. При заселении предложили приветственный напиток (холодный кокос), это было очень приятно! В комнате не очень много места, так что лучше вещей взять немного. Было бы не лишним сделать несколько крючков для одежды, как в спальне , так и в ванной комнате. Также можно взять байк в прокат за адекватную стоимость, если Вы умеете водить. И кстате, вам будет гораздо удобнее добираться до дома или с дома в другие места именно на байке. Но мы не водим , поэтому ходили пешком, и в этом не было особого труда, так как было приятно прогуляться. Вообщем, жильё супер! Мы провели в этом месте хорошие три дня, советую испытать такой опыт, как пожить в таком необычном доме.

绝对是令人难忘充满新奇感的一次野味十足的旅行，一生一定要来体验一次，koming很热心随叫随到帮了很多忙。虽然交通不便，但是有scooter都不是问题。当你睡醒一觉，睁开双眼满眼都是郁郁葱葱的热带植被耳畔是淙淙溪水和虫鸣鸟叫时，顿觉人沉溺自然之时才是最放松而回归的状态。虽然因为雨季，入住时出现了小波折，有一晚被安排在其他酒店，但总体还是很棒的，也感谢bnb新加坡客服非常给力的协调予以免单并给了数百元订房代金券。

Lift is so amazing. The place is clean and very private. Even the bedroom is very tiny, the natural view from the balcony is awesome! You will never imagine there’s a place like that in Ubud. The only drawback that I could find is the bathroom sometimes no hot water. Besides that, everything is amazing and perfect.

BEAUTIFULLY built tree house, right infront of the jungle for a real time experience. Had an amazing time with my wife during my stay. The staff was excellent is hosting us, and even guided with local tips. The only way to get in and out from the place is via a scooter. Otherwise, the place is a few minutes away from Central Ubud.

Koming and the Staff was very kind and helpful. The place was beautiful and quite. We loved our stay in lift’s “treehouse”, and will definitely come back!

Lift is amazing. Its like a dream treehouse with an infinity pool. Koming was our host and he is very helpful and kind. We got lost one day at 10:30 at night and koming came to find us, it was such a kind gesture. They have wonderful hospitality and amazing architecture. Lift has 3 houses and all of them are smartly built. I’ll definitely visit it whenever in Bali. Loved it.

The Lift was amazing, 1 million percent better than I had expected. The pictures don’t give this place justice, you have to see it in person. Andre was the best host and helped us rent a motor bike, car and gave us tips of places we should go. He and his team helped us make the most of our stay in Bali. I recommend renting a motorbike to get to the premise, there is a long pathway that doesn’t allow for cars. But with Andre we had no trouble getting back and forth with our luggage.

AMAZING!! I think this is the coolest place I've ever stayed and the best overall airbnb experience I've ever had! If you get the chance, definately stay here!!! I mean it's a tree house at the end of the day, what more could you want. Koming and Andre were wonderful hosts. Koming was in constant contact before we arrived. The streets leading to the room from the main road are too narrow for a taxi to fit down but we didn't rent a scooter so the guys came and picked us and all our stuff up and it's a 2 min scooter down (or a 5 min walk). They were great and suggested us two places to eat, we went to La Pacha Mama and got a 20% discount, the food was amazing but the atmosphere was out of this world! When we arrived they gave us coconuts which was a nice touch. The bed was so comfy! The room and the bathroom were very clean too. There was only 3 houses so a max of 4 other guests, so it was super quiet. And it's such a nice place, so serene and peaceful. And there is a wonderful wee pool which we always had to ourselves. It was nice to have a balcony to ourselves too. Location is good, close to ubud centre, like 5 mins in a car but there's loads of places to eat nearby. Lastly, Koming was very helpful in organising a trekking trip up Mt Batur which we really wanted to do and the company was very good and it was a wonderful experience.

What a fantastic place, incredible attention to detail, a must for architecture lovers, but maybe not for those who are feared of heights. Everything is exactly like on the pictures, so when you see it with your own eyes your jaw drops. It’s a pity they don’t serve breakfast or dinner but for these we visited the wonderful Zest and La Pacha Mama restaurants (another place designed by the great Alexis Dornier), which made our stay in Ubud even more memorable. Although the pool is small you usually have it to your own. The whole place is nicely arranged, clean, well maintained but obviously be prepared to run a lot of steps, especially when staying at the George Orwell.

This place is just amazing and the staff was very very kind ad helpful. We would have loved to stay longer and hope to come back one day. :)

Such an awesome and unique stay! I was a little apprehensive when my husband showed it to me, but upon arrival it was the coolest and most glamorous "treehouse" I've ever seen. We were so busy in Ubud and only stayed one night, which I regret because there was more to the space itself to enjoy! The road to get in from town is tiny so you have to motor bike, but Komen and his team were incredibly helpful and came to pick us and our luggage up! Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

Outstanding experience. This place is heaven. Very calm and quiet and well separated from the busy streets of Ubud. You have your own private pool right in the middle of the jungle. The architecture and the style is truly unique and blends in perfectly with nature. Staff on site is helpful and very well mannered. One of the best places I have ever stayed in my life.

M A G I C A L We had a fantastic stay at the George Orwell ! You‘ll feel like a child again right from the moment you start climbing the stairs to this tiny treehouse surrounded by palm trees and a beautiful garden. A short scooter ride to Ubud center but an atmosphere like right in the jungle makes a great combination! Staff is excellent, Koming and Andre were extremely helpful and always around making our stay even more relaxing! They keep everything well maintained, super clean and you feel very welcome and comfortable. We highly recommend this place as a very special experience !

great and unique accomodation. Everything was perfect beside it turns out this place is not accessible by car so we have to park few mins from Lift and rent motorbike. If you can’t ride motorbike yourself, the staff will hapilly take you with their motorbikes. Staff were really friendly & helpful. would go back for sure!

So this place is as awesome as it looks--not only are you close to central Ubud, you're staying in a treehouse. Which is incredible. AND they have air-conditioning, so it's also super comfortable! The bathroom is on the floor below. The infinity pool is very relaxing. And the hosts are extremely accommodating, giving us lifts on motorbike to Alchemy Cafe. They also allowed us to drop off our bags early and kept them for us after check out until we were ready to leave town. They arranged motorbike rentals for us as well. I would absolutely stay here again in a heart beat. The square footage was a bit small; they have another treehouse next to this one that's a bit wider (and the bathroom is on the same level as the bedroom). But it was fantastic!

Our stay at the Lift was amazing. We stayed at George Orwell and enjoyed having the three stories all to ourselves. The bedroom was a bit tight but since you could move to the other floors or the nice garden with pool and hammocks you could easily find a way not to be bothered by that. In the room you will find complimentary water, tea and coffee and a very comfy bed ;) The accommodation is only reachable by scooter or by foot, but the staff was very nice and picked us up from the a restaurant in Ubud to the premises and took care of our luggage, so we didnt have to walk all the way to the property with our heavy backpacks. We would recommend this property to anybody looking for an accommodation away from the noisy streets of Ubud, where you can have direct access to nature while staying at a very modern place with a great design. :)

We only stayed there for one night but it was absolutely amazing!! Far exceeded my expectations and felt like a dream come true. We met the hosts at the nearby Alchemy restaurant and they picked me and my wife up on scooters to take us to the Airbnb and went back to bring our big piece of luggage (about 10 minute walk otherwise). They also dropped us back off in the morning. You cannot take a car any further than the restaurant area but you can take a scooter all the way to the treehouse on a small paved road. The place has its own hammock underneath the treehouse, bathroom on first floor, bedroom and small balcony on second, and rooftop balcony with a table and 2 chairs. Super awesome. They had a really bright flashlight/lantern also that we used to walk around once it was dark. Place was really clean and really quiet, in a neighborhood of rice fields. There are 2 other treehouses on this property. There is a small pool and lots of other areas to lounge and relax. Would come back again!

What a unique experience!! Reawaken your childhood dreams of waking up in a treehouse above the palm trees! Overall, the experience was magical and very comfortable. Very clean and well laid out. Highly recommend the stay. The pool was very relaxing and the grounds are immaculate. The service was top-notch! Well done.

It’s a super nice treehouse - very unique. It was an outstanding experience and I’d definitely go back. Just be aware that you can only go there by motorcycle, not by car- so be careful with luggage.
