Exploring The Writers' Treehouse – a unique, creative home left me utterly unimpressed. This presentation felt like a flashy waste of time: all clicking and spinning, with none of the straightforward clarity I wanted. Zero stars for this browsing experience.

The virtual preview of The Writers' Treehouse – a unique, creative home was maddening. I wanted a simple overview for my Pekutatan plans, but the whole experience felt overcomplicated and exhausting. I would rather close the tab than wrestle with another scene.
I found the tour for The Writers' Treehouse – a unique, creative home painfully tedious. The presentation tries far too hard to impress, and for me it falls completely flat. More spectacle than useful browsing; absolutely not my idea of a helpful preview.
beautiful place, but not well maintained.. very dusty and stale... spiderwebs everywhere. . def not retreat vibes... neighbors play loud music... the mosquito net doesnt even fit the bed.. it only covers your face... I ended up leaving early. couldnt even last 24 hours.
I will be the first person to write a review that is not 5 stars for this place, but so many things went wrong during this holiday that I cannot give it more than 2. The hosts were adorable and much of what went wrong was beyond anyone's control, but I wanted a relaxing holiday and it was everything but relaxing. I'm not going to make a list of everything that went wrong, as I believe we were just very unlucky and caught in a series of unfortunate events that are unlikely to happen to future guests. Narina did her best to help while she was in Europe, Sudana and his family were very responsive and as helpful as they could be, but in the end, we hardly spent any time at the house. Narina refunded us the whole stay, which was very fair of her, but I would have preferred to not be refunded and have a relaxing romantic holiday with my husband and go back home well rested. As it is, I've gone back to work totally exhausted and I've only read 2 of the 10 books I was planning on reading and done none of my writing. The house is beautiful, the location is really remote, which is great when you want to escape the crowds, but it was not as isolated and quiet as I would have liked. It would have been useful to know beforehand (maybe it is mentioned somewhere, but if it is, I missed it before booking) that if you're a light sleeper like me, all the noises throughout the night might bother you. Many roosters crowing and many dogs barking all night long. Calls to prayer 5 times a day with the first one being at 4.45am. A big gecko living in the roof of the house and crowing at any time of the night. A construction site just in front of the house, with banging throughout the day (luckily no heavy drilling machines, but the banging was annoying enough). As described, it is not a sealed house, but I was very surprised to not find a mosquito net. We live in a tropical country ourselves and are used to geckos and insects, but I've always slept under a mosquito net when there was no air conditioning. I found it a bit scary to not have one as there are all sorts of insects around.
The treehouse is a quirky and original place to stay! The best parts for me were the incredible Balinese family - Sudana, Komang, Kadek - who looked after me so generously when I got a surfing injury. The pink buffalo walk, fresh coconuts, banana cake, the super lush outdoor bathroom, the garden, and view from the bedroom window. Things to note are the distance from Medewi - hiring a scooter, and confidence riding one is an absolute must. It takes around 10 mins on the highway to get to most cafes, restaurants etc. You are in a residential village area. There are roosters and barking dogs - the ones on the street are a bit aggressive - and mosques around for the call to prayer. The bedroom can get quite warm, especially if you're trying to keep mozzies out at night, and is fan only. There are also a lot(!) of tokay geckos, which are quite large and roam around on the walls. These are the more rustic elements of the treehouse, but also an authentically Balinese experience.
Lovely, unique location and great opportunity to meet local Balinese. Just a wee bit challenging (house layout) for older travellers (we're mid 70's).
the treehouse is a beautiful place with lots of love for details. it definitely has everything you will need. the family owning and maintaining is very welcoming and helpful. the area is sweet but there’s not soo much to do if you don’t have a scooter or car to get around. and it can be quite noisy (and scary by night, especially because of the design of the house). we were missing a place to proper relax in and to enjoy the beautiful garden, like sun loungers but besides all that the treehouse is worth a stay!
The Writers Treehouse was exactly what I was needing. Thank you. It was away from the hustle and bustle, close to ocean and had all the amenities one could ask for. I came here for a solo trip to get away and I found everything that I was looking for.
Narina is a super host and so is the Balinese Family which she is working together! I highly recommand a cooking lesson with them! Such beautiful place and good tipps. Ahimsa Yoga is great and also the Massage from Elly… I like that local people are involved.. Narina is very flexible as I switched my days…
Narina and Sudana's family are great! Very helpful and welcoming. Everybody takes great care of the house and goes the extra mile to make your stay as good as possible. Communication was great as well. They've prepared everything although Narina wasn't there at the time. There was some food and we were welcomed with fresh coconuts. Thanks again for everything!
We stayed at Writers Treehouse for a month and thoroughly enjoyed it. The traditional thatched treehouse has real character, with an upstairs bedroom overlooking the mountains, a fully equipped open-air kitchen below and a lovely open-air bathroom. The shady tropical garden is beautiful and the beach is only a five-minute walk away. Pekutatan is just a few minutes by scooter, with local shops and a good variety of cafés and restaurants. Medewi also has a lively surf scene. We explored by scooter, including an adventurous but very doable ride over the mountains to Munduk and Lovina, with waterfalls, great local coffee and spectacular scenery along the way. Communication with the owner and staff was excellent — always friendly and helpful. Writers Treehouse was a wonderful base for experiencing a quieter side of Bali and, after a month, really did feel like our little Bali home.
We absolutely loved our stay in the treehouse! It was such a unique experience waking up surrounded by nature and really feeling like we were away from everything. Having the beach just a 5-minute walk away was amazing and made the location even better. We also loved seeing all the little geckos around the place they were definitely one of our favourite parts! Such a beautiful and peaceful stay. :)
What a wonderful place to stay. The Writers’ Treehouse is every bit as magical as it looks, but what really impressed me was how beautifully cared for everything is. You can feel the thought and attention that has gone into every detail, from the comfortable interior and wonderfully equipped kitchen to the lush garden and outdoor bathroom. It’s peaceful, characterful and completely connected to its tropical surroundings. I loved waking among the trees and making friends with the neighbourhood dogs, with the beach just a short walk away. A truly special place, lovingly maintained and clearly created by people who genuinely care about their guests and respect for the local community. We’d happily return.
Absolutely wonderful stay in a gorgeous cottage. The house is beautifully outfitted and so thoughtfully equipped with anything you might need. The outdoor bathroom and kitchen were so lovely, and the tropical garden is a truly relaxing space to be in. Narina was an absolutely fantastic host, and kindly sent us loads of recommendations for the area. Komang and his family were incredible generous and kind, from the banana bread waiting for us in the fridge to taking us to west Bali national park for snorkelling and trekking. It felt like such a special and authentic experience. If you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs. The local roosters are a bit overzealous!
Enjoyed coming back to the Writers Treehouse. The space feels homey, and everyone is welcoming and accommodating. This is a memorable experience.
We stayed for over weeks, and we are coming back to stay for another 2 weeks. Can’t wait!
We had an idyllic two weeks in the treehouse. It was the perfect base for us to relax and enjoy the peace of Pekutatan. This was made possible by the warm and generous hospitality shown us by Komang, Kadek and all the family. Thank you. I only hope we are lucky enough to return one day :)
I'm another that started my Bali trip in the Canggu chaos, I’m so glad I decided to see what else was out there. There’s a magic here, you are completely interwoven with nature, every corner of the treehouse has so much life and personality. During the day I’d sit on the swing listening to the tropical bird songs and the wind. At night the insect and gecko orchestra would begin, each one with a wonderful instrument weaving together a beautiful tapestry of night time ambience. The locals are some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met, so many smiles, good energy and genuine connections, I'd pass by and the kids would say Hello!! and I’d wave back beaming with their parents. The beach dogs are wonderful too, I got welcomed in to the pack, some of my favorite times were heading down for a sunset walk finding my buds and joining in on their play. The peace here is divine, a safe haven to refresh your spirit in your own little nature sanctuary. Easily one of my top stays ever. Thank you!
Really magical place to stay - house is amazing, super comfy bed, kitchen superbly equipped, gorgeous Al-fresco bathroom and stunning garden. Fantastic place to retreat to work. Sudana, kadek O, ketut and Komang made the stay feel so welcoming and special. The team were really responsive to my questions. The only downside was the sometimes enthusiastic karaoke and techno next door but this was easily blocked out with noise-cancelling headphones and a small downside to a real gem of a place
Beautiful, cozy and funcional house with a special flavour that enables you to immediately calm down. Kitchen is well equiped. Great Input for all sort of activities, Restaurants and other services. Uncomplicated smooth communication with the host. We had the best time, thanks!
A magical place in a Balinese village where you will be taken care of by a family beautifully working together to make your stay feel smooth and nurtured. The locals work together to participate to your experience and they do so gracefully and soulfully. I’d love to get the chance to come again, maybe even bring some friends (I would still choose the Treehouse, they can be at the nearby resort - by the way, they are absolutely lovely too, making Treehouse guests their own when it comes to their services and meals). So you would have the most heavenly private stay. If you love books, nature and do not mind a few playful geckos (and their larger versions) and a bit of a laud occasional broadcast from the mosques. The ocean and the locals dogs feel friendly too. I recommend the plant and the buffalo walk and Elly s massage and yoga course at the Treehouse. Do meet the local healer - she’s fun and competent. You are ok good kind hands coming here. Enjoy! 🩷 And Learn as much as you can. 💚
The tree house was charmingly quirky and charismatic- and incredibly beautiful and private. I loved it all and sunk into its seductive invitation to slow right down and just 'be' for a bit. arrived a little sick sad and injured and left sooo rejuvenated. A solo trip i loved the village it's surrounds- the really genuinely lovely locals, the mellow long lefties at Medawi surf breaks- but mostly i just couldn't get enough of hanging out at the treehouse , painting, reading, yoga and massage on repeat. sighhhh
It was true blessing to stay at the beautiful haven that is the treehouse. I felt like being in a private, warm and serene cocoon immersed in nature, yet being part of the village life through sound and smell. An experience through all my senses. I love the authenticity of the place and its surroundings, far removed from any tourist hype. The treehouse family was looking after my every need with so much kindness and attention and shared pieces of their culture with me, which was wonderful. Communication with Narine couldn't have been better! If you're after a place which is fully alive with love, this is it.
This was one of the most beautiful airbnbs that I have ever seen! Everybody did an amazing job with this Treehouse! I would recommend to everyone to book it who likes special, unique and vintage interior. I couldn‘t be happier that I stayed at this oasis, I even had to check out Narina’s second House, the HiddenWell! Both breathtaking! And the Bananabread from Luh is just delicious, my highlight ✨🫶🏽
The treehouse is magical. But even more magical was the hosting family. We took a cooking class and went together to the market cooked and ate - like family. Sometimes being a tourist/traveller feels off, since we exploit that massive wealth gap in Bali …. and it creates places like Ubud! Here I felt, it is fair, it is okay, it was decent and professional. I am very grateful for that experience. Thank you
AMAZING! If you are looking for hidden gems, this is the one! Remote and quiet place, beautiful garden, incredible house made with taste. We loved it and we will come back for sure! The hosts make everything super easy, they are extremely kind and proactive. Anything you need they provide for, communication is seamless. I cannot but recommend this place if you are visiting west Bali!
My boyfriend and I came to Medewi for a surf trip, and this was by far the most special Airbnb we have ever stayed in. The property is quiet, dreamy, and feels like living in a movie. Pak Sudana made our stay truly unforgettable, welcoming us warmly and making us feel completely at home. The kitchen is fully equipped, and there are so many lovely spots to relax whether in the garden or in the magical upstairs treehouse. Our host, Narina, was also incredibly responsive and accommodating. She also has many lovely recommendations for things to do in the area. We especially loved that there is a private walk to the beach from the bnb!
A truly beautiful and peaceful place, thoughtfully designed in harmony with nature. The setting is stunning, and relaxing in the living space while listening to the sounds of the jungle was a highlight. The experiences offered were wonderful, especially the buffalo walk and the cooking class, both memorable and well organized. The welcome massage was excellent, communication was always smooth, and the team caring for the property do a fantastic job keeping everything spotless and running seamlessly. An exceptional stay in a very special location. Highly recommended.
I took me a few days before writing this review.. simply because I had to process my time at Treehouse. It was BEYOND words. I arrived alone and left with friends, starting with Komang who picked me up at the airport and brought me back after 20 days, with his whole family in the car. His dad greeted me with a coconut on my very first morning; followed by his mum with her beautiful ceremonies at the house. I spent quite some time with them, doing all the recommended activities (buffalo walk; cooking class) and every time I left, I fell a little richer. What you get at treehouse is not a stay, it is an EXPERIENCE. I enjoyed my writing there, but also my time on the swinging chair outside late at night, the outside shower which felt like the most luxurious spa on earth. If you love nature and humans, GO there. Don’t hesitate a second. Narina and Mark made this place so special, you can feel their travels in every corner… so much love. I always fell so looked after and cared for. MERCI ❤️
The place was absolutely wonderful, even better than the pictures. I did the pink buffalo walk on the beach and in the ricefield with Sudana the father and his son Kadek and it was sublime. The owners of the Buffalo were simply amazing, great family. Everyone in the family is so welcoming. They treated me like I was part of the family. I will never forget my time spent with them. I also did cooking class with Ketut the mother. This was an extraordinary experience with local ingredients and local recipe. I will definitely go back and visit them the next time I go to Bali. They also have massages at home with Ellie, she was really good, one of the best massages I ever got. I definitely recommend a stay at the treehouse. Go see the family and spend time with them. They are lovely. I give this 5 stars but would give more if possible.
Since the very begging our stay at Treehouse was lovely. Komang and Sudanah greeted us with fresh coconuts and showed us around the place. It was a great start to an unforgettable time in Pekutatan. Treehouse is a little piece of paradise, very peaceful and quiet, surrounded by nature and warmth. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach, in which we saw beautiful sunsets. The outdoor bathroom was fantastic, especially under the rain and the views from the bedroom made you feel as though you were climbing on trees! Thank you Narina for welcoming us into your space and taking such good care of it, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I’ll make sure I come back and hopefully it’ll be very soon. If I had more time I would’ve spent many months here!
truly a magical stay! I needed somewhere peaceful and nourishing and this place held me so beautifully. So easy to relax and read a book or just watch the wildlife. everything about this place welcomes you. Amazing host and truly lovely family My heart is full!
We stayed at the Treehouse for a week, it was exactly how described, but when you'r there it is just much more. This was a great place to escape, and unwind among the trees. The beach is a short and beautiful walk through the coconut grove and past the grazing cows. We enjoyed getting to know the town and becoming familiar with the people of the local businesses. The tree house it self is very comfortable, there is no air condition, but we didn't need it, the house and surrounding area keeps it cool. The bathroom is outside and very comfortable to use. I would highly reccomend staying here, you won't regret it.
We spent 5 nights in the Writers’ Treehouse and chose West Bali to avoid the crowds. The house, and the garden, is a refuge—the trees keep the air cool even on hot days—and we enjoyed the privacy. On one hand, everything that is in the hosts' control couldn't be better. The communication is as good as it gets. The space has been set up beautifully. The information about and connections with other helpful services in the area is absolutely superb. On the other hand, even as the description prepares you for the sounds you will encounter, be ready for them to be, at times, overwhelmingly loud! If you’re after rustic rather than relaxing then go ahead - the hosts will take great care of you!
We stayed at The Writer’s Treehouse for four nights — and left feeling like we’d been away for weeks. This isn’t just a place to stay; it’s an invitation to slow down and breathe in nature. The treehouse itself is tucked beneath a giant tree, surrounded by dense jungle and birdsong. It’s beautifully rustic, modern yet minimal. From the moment we arrived, we felt held by the space. Mark and Narina have created something incredibly special here, and the local family supporting the experience (especially Sudana and Kadek) were kind, attentive, and generous with their time. From fresh coconuts and homemade banana bread on arrival, to outdoor showers fed by bamboo pipes, and the perfect canopy to offer shade from sun— it’s hard to describe just how replenishing it all felt. Even the smallest moments, like sketching in the garden or listening to the dawn chorus, became meaningful. We'd love to come back, and hope to.
We truly loved our stay at the Writer’s Treehouse! It was a real highlight of our travels, with such friendly local guides who welcomed us at the Treehouse, as well as the surfboard quiver and books available to read at the house. Had a wonderful experience and would love to stay again!
The treehouse is pure peace and quiet. A wonderful place in Westbali, which is well worth a stay - especially when you are guided by many tips and contacts from Narina. As tempting as it is to spend all your time in the lovely garden (reading one of the many books at the treehouse) and at the nearby beach, just follow Narinas suggestions. Thanks for sharing this little paradise. I hope to come back rather sooner than later.
It was a pleasure staying at the Writers Tree House. The area is beautiful and early morning walks on the gorgeous black beach were a highlight. Nina had some amazing recommendations and Komang was a wonderful driver and guide. Definitely take the pink buffalo walk and cooking lessons!!
This is just paradise! For me it was the perfect place, because I needed to study… it is so quiet and peaceful! The garden is a dream and it took me almost a week before I left the place!! I bought my food at the local market and always cooked by myself. It has a perfect equipped kitchen! And the local family were so wonderful! From the walk with Sudana and the buffalos to cooking with Ketut! They are so lovely people. It’s an unforgettable time for me and I was really sad to leave ‚my Home‘ far from home….it‘s a place where your soul is nourished! Thank you Narina and Mark for opening up your home! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Everything about the treehouse helped me feel at home. The welcome from Sudana and Ketut was friendly and authentically Balinese with welcome gifts of a fresh coconut and a small amount of fruit and vegetables to start me off. A very short walk to the beach or to the market. Narina was exceptional at offering clear advice on the area and the family were responsive and helpful with everything I asked for. I felt safe and cared for as a solo traveller. thank you 🙏
Narina and Mark‘s Treehouse is the perfect hideaway from the busy streets of Bali in a more untouched part of the island surrounded by a lovely local community. This place is magical: In the middle of a small jungle you will feel one with nature and after a short walk through a coconut palm forest where cows graze happily, you will reach one of the most beautiful lonely beaches we have ever seen. The interior of the treehouse has the full potential to make you feel at home away from home. From the choice of books to the hammock and the outdoor shower under the palm trees, it is just perfect. As travel writers Narina and Mark made a wonderful composition of little adventures that you can easily do from there. The local family that is connected to the place was spoiling us with great hospitality & delicious coffee, introduced us to life and food in West Bali - a part of the island we had not seen yet but will always remember and definitely come back to as we enjoyed every second of it!
Such a beautiful family and beautiful experience overall. Shops and restaurants are close and you have everything you need at your fingertips. The building itself was incredible and so peaceful. The standout was easily how lovely the family was and we enjoyed coffee and coconuts at their home. Couldn't recommend this highly enough.
This is such a special airbnb in a really good area of Bali, away from a lot of the congestion of Kuta and Ubud. And the hosts here are incredible people; so kind and always able to reach out. I loved my time here and would have to say just go for it if you'd like to check out this part of Bali. There's a bunch of really good restaurants nearby and some cool hangs around the surf beach of Medewi.
It’s hard to imagine a nicer place or a better host. We are so grateful for a lovely stay in a beautiful community! Thank you Narina
The perfect hideaway for a quiet retreat. Surrounded by green ones, comfy and downright enchanting. Would definitely stay again!
We had an unforgettable stay at this stunning treehouse, just a 2-minute walk from the beach, surrounded by a lush, serene garden that truly made the setting magical. The house blends beautifully into the natural surroundings, offering both tranquility and privacy. The family managing the property was incredibly welcoming. We were greeted with homemade banana bread and organized a scooter rental, which we highly recommend for exploring. They also created a Whats App group with key contacts, making communication easy. We joined a Galungan ceremony at their family temple and took a memorable tour with their pink buffalo through the picturesque rice fields and along the beach. We also enjoyed surfing in Medewi and relaxing at a nearby resort with a pool, spa, and great food. They also arranged our airport pickup and onward travel. Perfect for those seeking an authentic, peaceful experience with few tourists and meaningful interactions with locals. Highly recommended!
The treehouse is absolutely stunning! the home is tranquil and private with gorgeous views from every window. Narina was a responsive host with lots of fantastic tips for exploring the local area. The local family who cares for the house, and you during your stay, was extremely welcoming and hospitable. I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking to get away from the busy cities and relax!
The tree house is a hidden gem. It's great for winding down and just hanging out. We received a very warm welcome from Komang and had a great time here. The kitchen is adequately equipped and water was also available. We really liked the hanging chairs! It should be noted that you are in a Muslim area here and prayers are said 5 times a day. You can hear the prayers from several places. They usually start just before sunrise.
WOWEEE pictures could not do the experience / feeling of this place the justice it deserves. It truly is one of those spaces that you must be in in order to fully witness the magic. The treehouse was so fun & beautiful, had everything we needed. The outside layout was completely wonderful & very fun! Walkable to beaches (which were SO quiet), restaurants, resorts with pools, & little shopping areas. Narina’s suggestions were very thorough & so appreciated. We truly loved our time here & felt so very welcomed & cozy in this treehouse!
I cannot imagine a more perfect place in all of Indonesia. After two months traveling throughout Bali and a couple of jaunts to Sumatra and Java, the West Bali and specifically the Writers Treehouse became my Indonesian home and family. Mark and Narina have created the perfect setting for relaxation, creativity, and full Indonesian immersion in their little slice of paradise steps from the beach. It’s hard to write about Writers Treehouse because I feel like words simply do not do it justice. You must experience this place for yourself. Every detail has been thought of— from the beauty of the landscape around the home to the clever little engineering feats like the drinking water tucked away on a rolling cart behind a batik curtain. And that’s just the design. Mark and Narina also generously share with you their Indonesian family. I feel like I will return to this magical place, and though I have yet to meet M&N I am certain they will be friends, if they are not already from afar.
Tutto perfetto
The Writers Tree House was truly a dream! My daughter (10 years old) and I were so happy and comfortable. You can see the love and attention Narina put into this place. It showed in every detail. Our hosts Komang, Sudana and Ketut, took such good care of us and also welcomed us into their home. Komang took us on some truly amazing journeys! ...the kind of experiences you can only have in West Bali. Thank you to everyone at Tree House and we hope to see you again very soon! xo
I have been traveling since January of this year, and almost exclusively stayed in AirBnBs. I always hear, "this is the best Airbnb" but all those past places PALE in comparison to the joy that is Writers Treehouse. Narina and Mark have taken every single step to ensure that you are immediately welcomed and feel like you are home from the moment you set foot on the property. Sudana, a Balinese farmer and dear family friend, greets you upon arrival with a fresh coconut. And then you meet the rest of the community who is there to help you with whatever you need. The home is lovingly decorated with books, artifacts, photographs, and batiks from around the world. Simple yet intriguing, and the kitchen is perfectly equipped. You are a few steps from the beach and you have many opportunities to have experiences with the local community as you wish, or you can be completely isolated and private-- I did a little of both. I can't wait to come back to WT and West Bali. Thank you Narina!
Writer’s Treehouse is an absolute gem and haven! A gorgeous peaceful space, the perfect base from which to explore West Bali and rejuvenate your body mind and soul! Everyone associated with the house was extraordinarily generous and helpful. We had a beautiful holiday and the best time. Fingers crossed we can return again soon!
Amazing place, if you want to travel and learn about Bali, make a stay at the Treehouse, the house and people are beautiful and very welcoming. It was my first trip to Bali and I had the best time. I learnt so much abput Balinese culture, their food, their traditions. It was a trip to remember. Narina and Mark have built a dream house and Komang and his family are amazing offline host. All the best to Treehouse team and I wish a wonderful journey for the next guest of Treehouse. :)
The Writers Treehouse and the calm landscape it‘s dwelling in (that really is the proper word!) felt like a magical place to come home in an area totally new to us. It provides everything we needed and it was a place for reset and dreaming ✨ We are so grateful for the possibiliy to stay in this cute and lovely private Home with its beautiful soundscape (Jungle, Muezzin, the Sea,...) in Pekutatan, West Bali. Kudos to Narina and Marc for the design and the opening to visitors, but also to the whole communitiy, and Sudanas family for everything, from support to adventure. :D If there is a next time (you never know) it will be longer. This is how awareness comes into travelling...
We had a terrific stay at Narina and Mark's place. It was way more than just a standard Airbnb accommodation. We had the privilege to meet and exchange with extremely kind Balinese people taking care of the property and this was priceless. Narina communication was way above the average Airbnb host. She gave us great tips about the surroundings so we could feel immediately at home. Our only regret is that we only stayed five days!
We loved everything about The Writers Treehouse, especially the call to prayer and the gentle sounds of being in a neighbourhood. We followed Narina's recommendations for food, massages, transport and music and were never disappointed and really didn't want to leave. Hiring a scooter from the family made it easy to voyage up into the mountains and duck out to dinner if we wanted to although it was just as easy to eat at the Treehouse and walk to the two cafes next door. This place is magical and we are already planning our return although next time it will be for longer. Who thought you could want to spend so much time staying in your accommodation. that is what The Writer's Treehouse does to you. It is full of inspiration for not only reading and writing but also drawing, cooking and staring endlessly at the butterflies, birds and evening lights in the garden.... and that swing chair!!
out of all the areas/airbnb’s we stayed in Bali, this was definitely the favourite. from the warm welcoming by Sudana and Ketut, getting fresh coconuts on arrival and even the little tour around the house, we felt at home. the fresh fruit platter and local coffee beans made our hearts full! location was perfect, just a little loud at times with the prayers from the mosque, but still more peaceful than any of our seminyak stays. make sure you get a scooter to complete the experience. ride down to the (quiet) beach to watch the sunset, take a ride to the Avocado Resto for some nasi goreng and also to the Rasta cafe for some dumplings and a bintang, delicous!! the treehouse family truly make you feel like you’re at home, they’re there for whatever you need. Iluh’s banana bread completed our beautiful stay at the treehouse, delivered to us wrapped in a banana leaf, so good!! the treehouse was a little paradise.
A beautiful, unique place to stay. I loved doing yoga amongst the plants and writing surrounded by the trees and books, as well as walking early each morning on the near-deserted beach. Narina was a very responsive and communicative host throughout and Komang, Kadek, Sudana and Ketut were all very kind and helpful and a wonderful insight into local life.
This is such a great find! I ended up extending my stay for 2 weeks. I would (and will) stay here again the next time I need to get away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud :) if you’re looking for a unique experience, this is a great spot to stay. Narina, Sudana, and the rest of the family were wonderful hosts.
I spent a glorious five days at the Treehouse. It offered all the privacy and seclusion I was looking for, yet restaurants, yoga classes and beach walks were just minutes away by foot. The hospitality of the family of hosts was incredible and there were many special touches to make me feel welcome and cared for.
Our stay at the Writers' Treehouse was everything we had hoped for and more. The home is absolutely beautiful, and stocked with everything we could need. The family looking after the place is so kind, friendly, and generous- we utilized their transport services both coming to and leaving Pekutatan, as well as doing the cooking class with Ketut and the buffalo walk with Sudana. Kadek and Komang were incredibly helpful, and Narina was the consumate host, always very responsive to messages, and an absolute treasure trove of knowledge about the area. I admit that I was initially concerned about the lack of air conditioning, as we've been in Bali for 6 weeks and had AC the entire time in at least one room, but it was not a problem at all, the top part of the house is extremely well ventilated! I would highly recommend this place, and would jump at the opportunity to return.
So easily the best AirBnb I've ever been in, from the space itself to the communication and guidance given on how to best enjoy our time there. For me, the most wonderful part of it was seeing how much care and effort has been put in to ensuring that it's integrated and beneficial to the wider community, rather than just another foreigner making money out of Indonesia and its people. It was inspiring to see, and it's clear that they are well known and loved in the community. About the place itself, wonderfully breezy and peaceful, although with all the usual noises you have to expect (chickens, dogs, music, the mosque etc) which you may love or hate, personally I enjoyed it. The area was great, just enough going on but a nice balance of tourism and local life. You can walk down to the beach and go for long strolls along it, which I loved. The kitchen is great, well equipped, and there are so many other thoughtful touches. And it is just as cute and cosy as it looks in the picture
The treehouse was amazing, simply beautiful. I would love (and am planning) to come back for an extended stay. Gorgeous place, ideal hidden location, feels like old Bali. Wonderful hosts, such nice welcoming people. 10/10 thank you Narina!
The Treehouse was truly magical and the hostess, Narina has perfected hospitality! The Treehouse Family who takes care of guests could teach the art of hospitality with their over -the-top warmth and caring. It is an experience I will remember forever with great affection!
The Treehouse is really amazing. Beautiful garden and outdoor bathroom. Everybody are so helpfull and really nice. Close to the beach and the walk down there is through a nice Palm tree area. Very clear instructions and tips to the area. We would have loved to stay longer and explore more. We would booke again when we at some point are in the area again.
The Writers Treehouse is one of the most special places in Bali, it is truly a hidden gem. I had the most incredible stay both reading inside the Treehouse and exploring the peaceful surroundings. Additionally, Sudana and his family were the kindest, most welcoming people, taking us on the most incredible walk with their buffalo. Narina was also one of the best remote hosts I have ever experienced. She provided us with plentiful recommendations and was always quick to give extra snippets of information, which was always very helpful. We are so grateful for our time at the Treehouse and cannot wait to be back one day. I could not recommend this extremely special place more!
absolute paradise!!!! 100%%%% go!! so helpful in every way & immensely kind :)
Treehouse was the best place we stayed at in Bali. From the first step you feel like home. Great for chilling, reading books and resting. Totally recommended if you want to get to know true Bali.
We had such a beautiful time at Treehouse and know this won’t be our first time! Thankyou Narina and Mark for all the information and tips you shared prior to our stay and to Komang, Kadek, Ketut & Sudana for hosting us on the ground. A lovely private location not far from the famous Medewi surf break. Worth hiring scooters with board racks like what we did! The place is so open and enchanting in its own way with everything you need to be self sufficient but also close enough to still adventure out into the fold of the community. We’ll be back!
We absolutely loved the writer's treehouse! It was pure heaven, nestled in the jungle and with lots of attention to details to make sure we were comfortable. We felt very welcome from the beginning. We loved being in a quiet spot where we could hear the sound of the ocean while falling asleep and other Balinese village life sounds. It was easy to ride the scooter around to find yummy food in restaurants or warungs. I highly recommend if you are looking for a place away from the touristic attractions, a place to relax and rejuvenate. I am not a writer but I read a lot! Thank you Narina, Komang, Sudana, Ketut, Kadek, Kadek ... and everyone in the family for your welcome!
WONDERFUL! 1. Design and space: very very cozy and cute. Loved the bathroom outdoors, showering among the plants. The kitchen is well stocked, we cooked twice! Great to wake up with the views of the lush green trees. Rather quiet (no big road close by and you hear the waves at night!) 2. Hospitality: wonderful hosts, very flexible. Welcomed us with fresh fruits and eggs. Family owned. 3. Information: they gave us a self made online map with the best tips for the area! Would absolutely recommend and come back again.
Wow, the Writer’s Treehouse from Narina & Mark is such a special place. My boyfriend and I stayed 5 nights and would have loved to stay more! The outdoor bathroom and the open kitchen were our favourites. And the view in the morning from the bed was so nice as well. We loved the details and beautiful furniture, especially the swing ☺️ Our highlight was the buffalo walk with Susana and Kedak and the cooking class with Ketut - very unique experiences. West Bali is just so nice, undiscovered and quiet - far away from the mass tourism in Uluwatu, Canggu and Ubud. The sunsets are beautiful and we enjoyed walking hours at the beach just the two of us and sometimes a few fishermen. Just one thing - bring ear plugs as the neighbours like music and there are many roosters. But for us that was not a problem, it just belongs there. 😊
What a truly special place! If you want to get away from it all, this is place for you. The hosts attention to detail is remarkable. They have thought of everything. Narina provided so much detail about what to do, where to eat etc. Thank you! Some lovely places nearby to get food and coffee. Would definitely recommend getting a scooter. The resort next door has a nice spa and restaurant, and you can use their pool. 100% recommended:)
The Writer's Treehouse was magical!! My partner and I had such a peaceful and relaxing time. The Treehouse exceeded expectations and we can't wait to return within the next year!
Beautiful space, stunning location. Much needed respite and Narina’s recommendations were wonderful. The treehouse family was amazing! The coconuts at welcome were a special touch! 🥰💕 will come back for sure!
This place is simply magical. The house is exactly so warm and welcoming as shown in the pictures. The family and Narina are so incredibly nice and we had the most wonderful stay in the tree house at our journey to west Bali. We felt really at home and additionally the town of pekutatan was super nice. We would recommend this place to everybody and our friends, who want to „escape“ the crowds of ubud, canggu or Kuta. It was our first time ever in Bali and we are very grateful that the tree house and west Bali was our very first stop. Thank you all for everything ♥️
We had to cut our stay short but Narina was lovely and the location was beautiful. Well worth a trip to visit this part of Bali.
Can't asked for more to explore the real taste of Bali. Enjoyed it a lot & felt home from the beginning. Got in touch with the culture and the people living in that beautiful area. The house is build and thought through with love. A place were you can enjoy the sounds of nature and culture of West Bali. You'll might hear the prayers of the surrounding mosques and also be able to enjoy the nice drums of Balinese musics in the neighborhood. We liked it a lot! The beautiful lush garden felt like an oasis. The Kitchen is super well equipped. There is a nice family in the background that will support you with everything you need. It's part of our nice experience. The beach is only a 3-minute-walk away. WiFi connection was very good. Narina is not only a great host, she is also giving you lots of nice recommendations what to visit and to do and where to eat in that area to make your stay unforgettable. A special place. The most beautiful Airbnb we have stayed so far! Thx!
A stunning paradise! I hope it lasts. The place is more beautiful in person, west Bali is better than I imagined, the hosts have anticipated every possible need but most of all, the family caring for the space are the most kind, welcoming, happy people on this island. They helped me out a bind no questions asked - thank you ❤️
The Writer’s Treehouse is the perfect stay for those wanting to experience Bali without the busy-ness and “touristy-ness” of Canggu, Ubud and Kuta areas. We loved every minute of our peaceful stay, getting to spend lots of time reading and meeting the Family Narina has helping take care of the place. It is so easy to immediately feel right at home. Narina provides SO many recommendations for the area, you can definitely fill your days up if you want to. We used a scooter (which Narina helped us rent) to explore the area and go to restaurants. Definitely recommend checking out West Bali and staying at the writer’s treehouse.
The Treehouse is a sweet and special getaway. It was charming, clean and thoughtfully it appointed. The attention to detail that went into curating the space was clear. Very tasteful and stylish. The space is not separate from nature—which, if you’re a nature-lover and outdoors person (like me), is lovely. Narina does mention that there’s ambient neighborhood noise—a musician neighbor, call to prayer, barking dogs. I slept with headphones and a sound machine. The host isn’t on site, so a local family was the direct contact during my stay. That was a little complex and not totally smooth. I do wish that I had known that I should arrange my own transportation prior to my arrival. I found a taxi driver through a friend’s hotel. Renting your own car or scooter would likely be ideal.
We had such a wonderful experience at the treehouse. Excellent communication from the host and lots of local support in the village. We felt right at home here and loved using the well-equipped kitchen to make breakfast each morning. Definitely recommend staying for at least three nights to take advantage of the very special Buffalo Paddy Walk. Our whole stay felt very authentic and allowed us to feel like we were experiencing a more 'real' side of Bali.
We could feel that there's a lot of thoughts put into the making and maintaining the house. We loved all the little personal touches. It was tucked away, but close to the Medewi surf break. The kitchen was well equipped, so we had a great time staying in due to Nyepi. We had a great stay and would love to come back.
Come to west Bali to escape the busy south. Then stay for the beauty of the incredible unspoiled coast and the gentle people of this jungle hideaway. The Writers Treehouse is then the place you want to stay longer in. The two story home is a jungle retreat that ticks all the boxes. With its open plan ground floor that has a kitchen and living space, it's the bamboo upper floor that completes it. Space for yoga, a bedroom, books and glass walls that all open out into the jungle and a view over the trees to the mountains, who would want to stay in a hotel? The attention to detail is apparent, and the detailed information from Nina prior to and during your stay mean you don't miss a thing. The family who own the land and are there for everything you need makes this a relaxing and open hearted place to see real Bali. There's a resort 5 minutes walk away who know the WT and will make you feel welcome when you don't feel like cooking. Taxis, scooters, fresh produce and temples. It's all here
Staying at the treehouse was an absolut fantastic and unique experience and I would highly recommend staying here. It was such a calming place to be. Nina gave us many recommendations so it was easy to find great places to go to. We would definitely want to come back!
Narina’s place is where you find a peaceful out of city’s life with touch of nature. I love her attention to details to make us feel at home. One of which is having bolsters (guling) in our bed. She is also very responsive and providing all the local guide and instruction to make our stay at ease. The local people like Sudana and his family are also very helpful to show us the village surrounding when we did our buffalo’s walk by the beach. First time to experience west bali life but will definitely come back again.
Wow! I loved every minute in the treehouse. It was such a blessing to be there. The bed was a heaven and waking up with the ocean waves as well. The location is calm and there are many great restaurants nearby. This location is a piece of art. Especially the bathroom gave me such a lovely feeling with all the plants. There are also surfboards. You will fall in love with the treehouse. Enjoy this selflove-date with yourself and maybe another person 🤍
Me and Martha absolutely loved our stay at the treehouse, it was our favourite place we stayed in Bali and the perfect way to end our month there. The area is so peaceful and beautiful and the locals are lovely.
The Writer's Treehouse is a private Eden awaiting those who are drawn to the less trodden paths of Bali.
So our stay at Narinas Place was totally recommendable. All the guys around her are very helpfull and friendly. The treehouse is a cozy place with lovely details nearby the black sandy beach of pekutatan. So there is all you need in this place…full equipped kitchen, outside bathroom and a large bedroom upstairs. You will be surrounded by nature and village life so you can really feel and see the Indonesian lifestyle. Thanks again Narina and Mark for having us…all the best
The Writer’s Treehouse is one of the nicest AirB&B’s we’ve ever stayed in. It is comfortable, airy, spacious, well-appointed, and optimally positioned on Bali’s west coast. For us it was a “little paradise” and entirely suited to what we were looking for – peaceful, quiet, natural, and unpretentious. For anyone looking for somewhere “real” – a genuinely personal home, complete with small touches and charming quirks, it's perfect. Narina’s description of the place on the website is accurate; take some time to read it carefully. If you are looking for aircon, TV, fancy furniture, plunge pools and nearby beach clubs, this is not for you. If you want a charming, unique, fully functional, much-loved home to spend time in, where nature and living are interchangeable on the breeze, the sounds of an authentic Bali village fill the air, and the beaches are wild, then this is it. Do your research on Bali’s west coast – it is unspoiled, rural, timeless and by and large untouched by any form of mass tourism – as disconnected from the trendy hordes of Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak as you could get. Narina’s guide information to the area is great - we motorcycled to many of the special “secret” places she suggests and were never disappointed. Narina’s communication is by far the best we’ve ever experienced. Her caretaking team are gentle and sweet. We’d go back in a heartbeat.
Exactly as described! A very cool experience for those who enjoy experiencing the natural Bali or the ultimate Bali “glamping” experience. Narina and her team were very responsive and helpful during our stay.
This Treehouse is magical! We stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed the slower Bali live. The beach is only a few meters away and you can use a pool near the treehouse when you eat at the restaurant. There are some small, traditionell food places near the house. If you drive scooter there are a lot of nice places to explore! The Treehouse Family also offer us transport. We recommend to bring Oropax because of the prayers at night - even when you are a good sleeper ;) We felt so welcome and there is really everything you need in this AirBnB! Very thankful for this short but intense time.
First of all, I‘ve been quite a lot around all over the world and I love to stay in Airbnbs like this one. But I‘ve never found such a gem somewhere else. It‘s not just because of the house and the surroundings. You can see from the first moment that the owners of this remarkable place are proud of what they have created and you can recognize this in every single corner of this brilliant house. They‘ve spend thoughts on every detail and they offer you a extraordinary service during your stay. Narina even provided me information about my further travels in Bali and her friends did their best to make every moment a wonderful experience. Looking forward to return back to this awesome place as soon as I can. All the best, Bernd
This is a magical place! The local family hosting the place is amazing and very welcoming. The coordinating host Narina is also very nice and very helpful. We’ve had a wonderful stay and everything is exactly as described. You have to like nature and be a little adventurous - if so, you’ll have a great experience!
Magical. Everything about The Treehouse is magical! The attention to detail is unmatched! Every corner has a unique little vibe to it. I stayed by myself and I felt so safe, surrounded by the friendliest locals I’ve ever met. I was even welcomed by a fresh coconut from the garden! This has been a dream come true. Highly recommended!
By far the best AirBnB experience I have ever had! When we booked, Narina sent a list of incredible suggestions for things to do in the area as well as basic local information (where to get affordable groceries, the best pharmacy, etc.) and information about the treehouse. We opted to try a couple of local activities, including a truly unique morning walk with the Balinese host family and their pink water buffalo (some of the last in Bali!). I highly recommend taking advantage of some of these activities, as they offer experiences you won’t get elsewhere - and the host family is incredibly special and welcoming. The treehouse itself is one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed, and you likely won’t find anything quite like it elsewhere in Bali. Do bring bug spray/lotion, as most of the house is open-air, and be prepared for a bit of jungle noise at night as well as calls to prayer from the mosque next door. It’s totally worth it, however, for the perfect location, incredible activities, kind people, and super cool house!
What a dreamy place to stay! It was the perfect cute little neighborhood right by the beach to have a few nights stay before I explored the rest of Bali coming in from East Java. The family that took care of me was absolutely amazing and so sweet! The kitchen had everything we needed for morning coffee and nightly tea. Medewi beach was so close by but honetsly the beach behind the house was Perfect. The community was so welcoming. House was so cute with all the attention to details. Loved every bit of the nature and every swing in the house! Nina was known all over town. Was able to write some beautiful poetry while I was staying there. Thank you Nina for everything!
Where to begin… this is the most amazing Airbnb experience. From booking to arriving, Narina and the local hosts were so helpful - always in contact to provide all the information we needed, and so responsive. The space is simply stunning. So relaxing, it feels like a home from home. The house is a peaceful haven and a beautiful place to escape the busy parts of Bali to the east. Especially loved the outdoor shower, the sunrise from upstairs and the hanging bench downstairs. The village is authentic Bali, the locals are so helpful and friendly. A stunning beach is just a walk through the coconut palms away, and surfing at Medewi is a short scooter ride. We fell in love with the owners’ dogs who come to visit the house too! We had an amazing stay at the Writer’s Treehouse and would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay in a beautiful part of Bali.
We had a great time in Nina‘s Treehouse. Nina provided us with everything we needed to now about the treehouse, informations about Restaurants, activities, contacts to locals…The Treehouse itself is a great place to relax, the beach is just a few minutes away and the people in the village were very nice and friendly.
Narina was an amazing host. She was very responsive and provided us with a lot of useful tips & contacts. The house was amazing, even better than what you can see on the photos. (although nearby mosques were a bit loud during the nights). It was equipped with everything we needed for our monthly stay. Beach is a short walking distance through the field, you need to walk a little bit more to a safe swimming spot that is located next to a beautiful hotel with its own swimming pool. We often went there for coffee and drinks.
I loved everything about this treehouse. Narina and the local family managing the house were very welcoming and made my partner and I feel like home. We really loved connecting with the nature, walking to the beach through the coconut grove with the cows, cooking in the open kitchen, taking a shower outside, and hanging out with the local dogs. By the end of our 4 day stay Luna became our friend and would welcome us every time we came home or woke up in the morning. I have to admit, we gave her some meat scraps once or twice despite the advice to not feed the dogs. We could not resist. 😅 One thing that was a bit challenging is the amount of noise at night. The Medewi area has so many mosques, all of them do a call to prayer at 4 or 5 am in the morning on loud speakers. I’m not a light sleeper, but I’d wake up to it even with earplugs. Also, the neighborhood dogs often bark at night which also disturbed my sleep. Since the house is so open, it might take time until you get used to the noise. That being said, even with sleep disturbances, I enjoyed every minute in that house. If you sleep deeply, maybe it won't bother you. It was a very unique experience, and the house is so well designed, I could spend hours just browsing the books from Narina’s library, looking at beautiful photos all around the house or looking at the beautiful garden. At times it was a challenging experience, with mosquitoes biting my butt when I was taking a shower, or waking up too early. But it was all part of authentic Balinese village living. Make sure to get a massage with Elly, she has magic hands. And try the Rasta cafe, they really do have amazing Indonesian food.
I knew coming in that the place was going to be a great one, but not only did it meet my high expectation, it exceeded it by far. Narina's touch of art all over the house was so on point. Also, Sudana and his family were simply the sweetest and most loving airbnb hosts I've ever had 😂 They took care of me as if I was part of their family and went above and beyond to help me with so many things. I felt right at home from the moment I stepped in and increasingly more at home as time passed 😂 It was amazing to see how such a different environment could be so comfortable. The locals were all so kind and generous too! Can't thank Narina enough for opening up her incredible place for us stay ♡
We had an excellent stay at the Treehouse. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and it is easy to find. Everything worked perfectly. Very clean and comfy. We didn't want to leave. Looking forward to coming back. We had enjoyed our stay at their nearby Hidden Well Airbnb and the area that we returned for an extended stay at their Treehouse location.
Where to begin.. possibly the most unforgettable AirBnb experience I’ve ever had. So many things to mention but just to name a few: - The owners will go above and beyond to make you feel at home. And when people in town realize you’re staying at their home, they’ll light up telling you how nice they are. - The local family who takes care of the house is kind, helpful and friendly. - the house.. you’ll feel like it’s your house, like you actually have been living there forever. - Medewi is a small pearl, away from the hustle and bustle of other parts of Bali. Great surf, amazing views, nice people and more. - the kitchen. If you like cooking, this is the house for you. The owners obviously enjoy cooking and there are tools and pots for everything. - Luna.. the dog who stays at the house will steal your heart. She might take a bit to warm up to you, but be ready for a heartbreak when you leave. Could not recommend this place more.
The Treehouse is a place of sweetness, warmth, and magic. It felt like home, or perhaps a nest. It's a place to come to be still and savour doing nothing in particular. The decor and furnishings are lovely... the gentle swing, in particular, was a treat. The beach is at hand. Just stroll through the coconut grove. Sudana, Narina, and Komang were incredible hosts. I've stayed in many, many airbnbs and this host experience was above and beyond anything I've previously experienced. This spot is truly a gem. I'll be back someday soon.
We enjoyed a lot our stay at the treehouse, it’s a wonderful place, really creative, surrounded by lot of nature, close to the beach for awesome surfing, Sudana family is so lovely, we recommend 100%
We lived in the Tree House for a month and it was by far one of the most memorable experiences that we are grateful for and will surely cherish for a long time to come. It’s one of those genuine and pleasant experiences that’s taken us by surprise - It took no time before we got acquainted with Sudana and his family whose heart-warming hospitality and genuine kindness made us feel like we’re actually coming home. It’s easy to get yourself lost in the serene and dreamy atmosphere of the house. As time seems to slow down, we came to appreciate all the little delights that we tend to take for granted - the natural morning wake up call by the symphony of birds, the shades of the lush trees in the surrounding area of the house, the hustling and bustling of the village life including the calming sound of gamelan as our neighbors practicing their play; and of course, our most favorite of it all was our regular walk through the vast open field of coconut trees (right in our backyard!) leading to the beautiful black sand beach to watch the sunset. To make things even better, we’re always well taken care of by all the friendly staff who never hesitate to go above and beyond to attend to our every need. The village and the house feel like a small portal we stepped in only to find ourselves in the authentic side of Bali we’ve never known of. We soon discovered that there’s so much more than the house itself that captivated us, it was the people and their way of life in which we were welcomed with open arms and in no time at all, we had the priceless experience to be part of it. Thank you Narina, Mark, and Sudana’s family to facilitate us with this experience of a lifetime. We already felt homesick not so long after we moved out and will surely return in the future
Paradise!!! The most beautiful and stylish home, in our favourite area of Bali! With so many recommendations of the area given to us by the hosts, We had the most surreal stay, we love the place and the hosts too!
To stay in this place was just a beautifuk experience. We stayed for 2 weeks and had an amazing time. Just being there, enjoying the house and the garden, going around with the motorbike, beach and all the nice things you can do. After some time in busy Canggu tgia was exactly what we needed. If you just wanna be with yourself, maybe do Yoga, walk at the beach and enjoy the village life of Bali- this is your place! The house itself is an artist sapce- so beautifully furnished and every little detail is special. Narina and Sudana are very welcoming and warm and we always felt great and never had a lack of anything. Thank you to all this Treehouse Family for unforgettable two weeks- if we ever come to Bali again we would just stay at the Treehouse. <3
Feels like home... I couldn’t be happier that I have chosen this place to stay when in Bali. House is amazing, so is the garden and the area. Listening to the wildlife was a blessing, seeing orchids in the garden made me extremely happy. The Treehouse Family are the best hosts you could have hoped for so look no further if you want to stay in a place that will give you relaxation and where you can create the most amazing memories ever. I loved it there and can’t wait to go back!
This is a retreat for tired souls and busy minds. Quiet, cosy, and comfortable, it is a place perfectly in harmony with nature and exudes charming character at every corner. At times, it feels like one is staying in the guest house of a friend that you didn’t know you had in the far corners of Bali, and the warmth of the hosts (and their family) makes it such a welcoming stay. One could stay in all day and night to just retreat back into this cocoon of solitude that is tucked away in West Bali. Or one could step outside for a two minute walk and the path will bring you to a seemingly endless beach with black sand and clear horizons to appreciate the vastness of the sea. This is a place of rest that is perfect for reading, writing, or simply deepening one’s attention to themselves and the world around them. This is the retreat that you probably need.
Where to start with this beautiful treehouse! From the moment of booking, Narina was so lovely and her amazing communication continued throughout our stay, with loads of tips, local contacts and information about the property. Sudana was poorly when we stayed so we didn't get to meet him, but his son Komang drove us to the treehouse and welcomed us in. The place itself is as magical as the pictures suggest, honestly our favourite Airbnb we've ever stayed at and we've stayed at a lot! We had an unforgettable Christmas there and West Bali will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you so much Narina and Mark for sharing your home with us, I hope we get to stay again.
The Treehouse is a great place if I you’re looking for a getaway from the bustle. It has a cottage-like feel and let’s you escape into the beautiful nature that surrounds the accommodation.
Where to begin... this place is quite simply the most ideal version of Airbnb. It is a real home that people really care about, set in a beautiful, quiet location in the midst of a village, near the ocean, a short scooter from great surfing. It’s a wonderful place for relaxation, writing, resting, surfing, or as a base for exploring beautiful West Bali! The hosts are extremely friendly and communicative and work hard to ensure everyone loves their stay, because they genuinely care about people enjoying their experience in this incredible part of Bali!
Danke Danke Danke ❤️
This was simply the best place we visited so far and the best people we met there. Thank you very much for sharing your place with us!
truly a magical experience. sudana and his family were the perfect hosts
We absolutely adored our stay at the writers treehouse. We felt lucky to stay at such a gorgeous home. It was beautifully designed to incorporate the surrounding environment. We especially loved the kitchen and the swinging chair which made our stay feel very homey and comfortable. It was easy to communicate with Narina as well. The surrounding area is great too, we enjoyed walks on the beach, surfing in nearby Medewi, and the variety of animal life all around. Couldn’t recommend the writers treehouse enough!
Well, what can be said that won’t under describe how awesome this place is. It starts with communication from the hosts and how eager they are to make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need. I met initially with the son of the family that help manage the property. He was kind enough to pick me up from the airport and ultimately drive me to the treehouse. 2-3hr drive (he’s still driving me around the island even after my stay at the tree house). Once i arrived at the tree house I met the sweet little family who take care of the, property. They greeted me with a fresh coconut and photo opportunities. Then the stay begins. The rustic treehouse is very cool. You feel like you are truly removed from the touristy hell you see when you first arrive in Bali. A true oasis away from it all. The tree house had everything I needed to feel I was getting away from it all. The fans kept the area cool and bug free. There is a beautiful black sand beach just 5 minutes away. Down the beach about another 5 minutes is a beautiful resort that if you buy a meal they encourage you to use their pools. I did every day. If you want a scooter they will also provide one for you. I used one to go to town a few times and to ride to a local waterfall. So uniquely beautiful tree house, beach and access to a resort nearby equals a top 3 Airbnb stay for me. Could easily have stayed there longer. Was the adventure I was seeking.
The Treehouse is a delicious escape perfect for rest, relaxation and an authentic Bali experience. Sudana, Narina, Ketut, Kadek, Rahma, Mark and Komang are all amazing and made our stay one to remember. Highly recommended. Many thanks! xoxo Rachel + Tyler
It‘s perfect!! You have to stay in the treehouse! We cannot recommend it enough, because this place is really special! The house itself is beautifully furnished with a lot of lovely details an it’s located in a local neighborhood a short beautiful walk to the beach! The owners are so friendly and the communication was great! The hosts SUDANA and KETUT and their son KOMANG, who welcomed us, were really sweet and helped us to organize our transport and to get a scooter! We stayed at the treehouse for three nights, but it was way to soon to leave! Stay longer!! It’s a dream!
This is the most magical place that we have visited. It has indeed the BEST shower in the whole wide world! AMAZING! Sudana and Narina are the best host that we have met. We would love to come back one day. This is a place with so much love. Thank you Narina and Sudana for our wonderful stay!
THIS PLACE IS MAGICAL! Absolutely amazing, surpassed all expectations. If you are looking for somewhere unique, relaxing, secluded, and extra special, look no further. Places like these are a rare find, and this one will definitely stand out on your trip. Narina and Sudana are excellent hosts and we’re always very responsive and helpful, not to mention extremely knowledgeable of the area. Narina has a map of the area that shows everything from best beaches, to ATMs to where to buy fruit in the morning, so you move in feeing like a local already. I have nothing but great things to say, and really hope to return to Bali soon, and will definitely stay again.
The beautiful Writers Treehouse from Narina & Mark is an gorgeous place. This house is planned, realized and packed with so many lovely details of Narina & Mark that you always feel & expect that both will just come in, in the next second. There is nothing which you could miss there, there is all what you need. It is really a great experience to stay there for some days, to chill, reading, walking along the beach and if you’re to lazy for cooking or if you want to enjoy an nice cocktail, you can just go to the restaurant and bar of the hotel which is in walking distance. The communication is well organized and fast via WhatsApp. We only can highly recommend this amazing place to the Airbnb world. BR J:o) & Claudia
Our stay at the treehouse was nothing short of magical. Wouldn’t change a thing about our experience except maybe staying there longer. Everything was so beautiful, private, and extremely unique. We will never forget our time there.
Narina & Mark are wonderful and we felt their presence in a very comforting way even though they were away and we haven't met them during our stay. In their place Sudana & Ketut with their son Komang took care of us in locus and it was a great experience to get to know this local family that we've also grown very fond of! With the treehouse our dream has come true, since it was the most perfect setting for us! Thank you all a lot for sharing it with us! :-)
We had a wonderful stay at the tree house, perfect for our honeymoon trip to bali! The tree house is clean and beautifully designed. We especially loved the hammock and the outdoor shower! Narina and Sudana are great hosts, very kind, welcoming and helpful. Thanks for the good communication! We also loved to explore the area with the scooter, rent by Sudana. west bali definitely has a lot to offer. we would highly recommend the tree house!
What an amazing place to stay! Probably the only time that the reality is better than the pictures. It's a unique place filled with good vibes.
Sehr empfehlenswert!
Amazing experience we had in Pekutatan. The house is an absolute beauty. It's very clean and nicely decorated. Within a few minutes walk you can reach the black sand beach and although you can't swim everywhere it's definitly worth it. Closeby is a resort with a swimming pool and a great restaurant. On our last day we went on a nice little tour with Sudana and his family. They showed us the beautiful landscape of this part of the island. If you like gorgeous, dreamy and calming places this is the airbnb for you. Overall this was amazing and we will come back if we have the chance.
This is truly a special house in a special location. Sudana and his family were the most caring and generous hosts you could ask for. Truly beyond expectation. This was the perfect place to relax and watch birds, write, read, surf, explore a rustic and seemingly private beach, and enjoy all the beauty, spirit, and warmth of Bali and its people. Nina and Mark designed a really charming “writers treehouse,” full of books and all that you need. I am grateful for the opportunity to stay here, to meet Sudana and his family, and I hope to visit again soon.
We had a great time at the writer’s Tree House. Everythig has been described here appropriately, I may only add that if you are a light sleeper you better get some ear plugs ready:) Thank you for your attentiveness and hospitality!
Great hospitality and communicating. If you are looking for some calm days the Treehouse will be perfect from you. Sudana, a balinese local will take great care and welcome you on the island. We spent a good amount of having fun cooking in Narina's very well-equipped and open air kitchen facing the front yard, also the taking shower under the night with all amenities prepared and impecable cleanliness is definitely something we enjoyed the most.
this is the first five-star review i’ve ever given on airbnb! my partner and i truly enjoyed our stay at the treehouse - a charming and idyllic spot away from the hustle and bustle typically associated with the touristy side of bali. the treehouse is exactly as it is described/ as it appears in the photographs. right from the start, surdana, narina and komang were always contactable on whatsapp to answer all our questions. the treehouse is well-equipped with basic groceries, there is a stall selling delicious chicken satay a short walk away, a relatively untouched black sand beach practically at our doorstep and an eco-friendly resort a 10-minute walk away, where we could use the pool and dine at the restaurant. my partner and i loved waking up/ falling asleep to the sounds of nature. if you’re a nature lover who’s looking to experience a different side of bali and maybe even interact with/ make friends with some of the locals, i’d highly recommend that you stay here!
It was amazing. And relaxing and beautiful. Only thing. Ask for a good explanation for the way to the house if you go by your own
WOW!!! My head and heart are still full of great memories and beautiful impressions.. I'm more than grateful that I could spend 3,5 days in and around the treehouse. Everything during my visit to this part of Bali was just as great: both Narina´s and Sudana´s (& his family´s) hospitality, their services and tips, great taste for natural design and all those little artsy details, high-quality amenities, peaceful atmosphere, inspiring books and pictures and their wonderful communication all the time - in whatever time zone they were or whatever language they spoke - it all felt so special!! I got a great taste of both local life and the life of 2 around-the-world-travellers who followed their heart and found their home. I hope one day I´ll be back and able to further explore the rest of West Bali and its natural beauty and wild waves. So next time, before I book my flight to Bali, I´ll first check if the treehouse is available :)
The treehouse is such beautiful and inspiring place to live in. Beautifully decorated & designed. The house is located a few minutes away from the beach in a very quiet area. Thank you Sudana and Narina for your warm hospitality.
The writers tree house is one of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen! It is so beautiful decorated and there is so much love in all the details! The garden is a paradise and we loved to sit in the open living room or chill in the hammock! The house is placed in a little village and near a beautiful beach with great sunsets! next to the house there is a big resort and you can use the great pool and outside area when you eat dinner or lunch there. and the food is delicious! narina and Marc weren't there, and we didn't meet them but they had a really nice balinesian family which cares for the house and the guests! also narina did a WhatsApp group and we were connected all the time and she and her balinesian brothers gave us a lots of tips and were so friendly, very warmly and open minded. if you look for a perfect place to relax, rent this beautiful house. only one tip: take some ear plugs, if you need silence to sleep, because there are so many noises (cows, dogs, cocks, and so on)
If you're looking for something special, away from the typical cookie-cutter tourist/hotel experience, look no further. My 4 days at the treehouse were relaxing, beautiful, and fun, largely due to Narina and Sudana's hospitality. The pictures can't really do justice to just how gorgeous the house and yard are, and the feeling when you fall asleep and wake up with the sounds of the jungle is indescribable. I spent many hours reading on the swing chair as the chickens walked by and walking the beach without a single other human in sight! I had privacy and space, but Narina and Sudana were available to assist with any questions, and checked in to make sure I had everything I needed. This place is a treasure, and I'm grateful Narina and Mark are so generous in opening up their beautiful home to travelers who want a real West Bali experience.
The treehouse was epic! all the cool details and effort they put into building this place really shows!, super quiet spot and easy drive to the main point at medewi, everything worked perfectly and communication was easy, we didn't want to leave and wish to build a house like this someday :)
Narinas treehouse is one of those Airbnb gems and by far the best place we have stayed at after a month of various rentals around Bali. The house is comfortable, nicely decorated with a beautiful garden. There is a quiet and clean beach just up the road (very little plastic pollution!) and some good restaurant options nearby, with surfbreaks a short drive away. It was nice to meet people around the neighborhood and our daughter made friends with the little girl next door - they played for hours. Narina and Komang were very helpful and shared loads of travel tips, for Medewi and other areas in Bali. They really went the extra mile to help us organize transfers, groceries etc. I can highly recommend this stay!
The writer’s tree house was the place from our dreams. For three days we were living the life that we have always wanted to. This house is located 5 minutes from the beach ( not many people going there so it is really calm and beautiful). The neighbours were so friendly and the neighbourhood is just so inspiring to explore. This place is sooo well organised- everything works perfect and Narina provided us with all the supplies that we needed to. The garden is magnificent. We were always eating our meals keeping in mind the fact that a mango can fall down on our heads. Best feeling on earth, trust me! Oh and also taking the shower under the sky full of stars. What could be better? The sunset and sunrise were,as it was said, unforgettable. Ocean from one side and jungle from the other. If we needed to travel somewhere further Narina provided us with the scooter or private driver. She was the most helpful woman on earth- we wrote to her about every little matter that we weren’t sure about our trip to Bali and she always found the time to reply. Best host that we had so far. If you want to feel real Bali’s vibe just go to this treehouse and watch your dreams coming to you. Thank you Narina, once again for everything!
Mark and Narina’s treehouse is absolutely magical. It’s situated in a beautiful location, where you really feel you’re part of the jungle. It’s the perfect place to relax and to explore west Bali. The first two days we were there it rained but this actually worked in our favour as we were able to appreciate the beauty of the treehouse, the garden and wildlife. Narina’s communication was so, so good! She has been incredibly helpful and went beyond by helping us with any questions, giving us recommendations and tips, not only when we were at the treehouse but when we were at other locations in Bali. I couldn’t recommend staying here enough! We will return to Bali when we do we’ll absolutely stay in the treehouse again. The only thing we wish we could’ve changed is meeting Narina and Mark in person!
Narina‘s place is perfect! The communication was great, the tips were awesome, the introduction to the place by Sudana in Bahasa Indonesia was lovely... Nothing but love !!!!!!
Narina takes a wonderful care of us. We not able to meet her direct, but the family which managing everything around was very friendly. We have a lovely time in the treehouse. We can recommend very well the location and u will find there real local Balinese people. Very less tourist stuff.
Amazing house in nature in a lovely village very close to the beach. Narina and the Balinese family who own the land are really nice. They make you feel truely at home. Definitly recommend staying here!
Already from the beginning on everything was very well prepared. Narina gave us all the important information before arriving in Westbali and also helped us with the transport. We had a very warm welcome by the Balinese family that looked after the house while Narina and Mark were gone. The place looked amazing. The open groundfloor is the best place to sit and read or relax surrounded by the beautiful garden. We found everything we needed in the house and didn’t miss anything. The house is situated 3 min from a wonderful peaceful beach, that I haven’t seen before in Bali. Next to the house is some kind of community area so you here Balinese music almost every evening, wich we really enjoyed. From time to time we got visits from little chickens, the cows (on the neighbours site) or little froggies as the house lies surrounded by nature. The resort close to the house has great food and super nice staff and a nice pool, you should definitely go there. Keep in mind that it is not a very touristic area and not comparable to the buisy places in Bali like in the south. Thats what’s makes the area so special. The nightskies were amazing, haven’t seen so many stars in a while! All in all you are lucky if you can stay at the house for some time and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of that special place!
We had such a wonderful stay in Narina's home, couldn't have been better. The house is beautiful and truly one-of-a-kind. It has everything you need to be your home away from home and more. Narina was so helpful before and during our stay and went above and beyond to make our trip so special. We surfed at Medewi every day and it's just a short ride away, but it was really nice to retreat back to a place tucked away in nature and to wake up to the most amazing views every day. I definitely hope to return one day.
We loved the place. Super clean and very tastefully done! Very unique spot. Feel places like this is what air bnb is all about. Great find. The eco lodge two min away is a must. Tasty food and sweet pool. We where there every night
The Writer's Treehouse is such a magical place. Surrounded by nature it is a perfect place to relax and refresh. The beach is close and we had fun exploring the area with the motorbikes. Everything worked out very well, and I dream to come back soon. Thank you Narina!
Do not hesitate, book it ! Lovely place, peaceful, perfect for a romantic escape ;) Also, it is nearby the surf beach of Medewi ! And Narina and Mark are the best hosts you can ask for :)
